What to do

I've got 2 files in my Downloads folder (both files 1.5Gb) and I'm wanting to delete them but if I right click on a file the folder
locks up and stops responding, left clicking and then clicking delete on keyboard does nothing... :wail:

My question is - How can I remove these files from my computer (Win 7)?

Re: What to do

It is locking up because your A/V is scanning it. Try turning off your A/V then try again.

Dont right click...just press your Delete button.

Re: What to do

Sorry no good guy, it seems that the only possible way is to delete the Downloads folder that contains these 2 files...

If I do that can I get that folder back ?

You could also try to delete them from the command line and see if you get an error message.

What type of file are they?

I've got no idea how to use the command thing. What command phrase would I use?

The files are PR mod files

I'll look into that

Re: What to do

You get into safe mode by hitting F8 before the windows loading screen. Safe mode is running windows with only minimal windows components running. This is a good mode to run when you have some troubles and try to fix it this way.

F8 didn't work so I droped power to my PC (ouch...) and started it back up in Safe Mode and we have a winner!

Those pesky files are gone now, thanks guys for all the great advice :clapper:

Re: What to do

I am guessing the root of you problem lies somewhere in one of these.

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellExecuteHooks
HKLM\Software\Classes\*\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers
HKLM\Software\Classes\AllFileSystemObjects\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers
HKLM\Software\Classes\Directory\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers
HKLM\Software\Classes\Folder\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved

I use Autoruns to look at stuff like that. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx

Ok that would be helpful if you have more information as to why you think that is a problem.

Ok, again not enough info to know for sure. Could be many things. However, doesn't matter because it's fixed.
